Chihuahua city is the capital of the largest state in Mexico. Its extensive territory is
surrounded by natural areas like mountains, rivers, copper canyons, and dunes.
Due to its proximity to the united states, the city played a key role during the Mexican
revolution and become a central battleground leaded by Pancho Villa and its Northern
Division. Today, Chihuahua City and its Historical Center tell stories of the battles and
give a glimpse into the life and work of important personalities such as Benito Juarez,
Miguel Hidalgo, Ignacio Allende, and Pancho Villa.
The handicrafts in Chihuahua are produced by the Raramuri, Mata Ortiz, and Paquime artisans
and are recognized for their artistic and complex designs. The Raramuri work with elements
provided by the Sierra Tarahumara (wood, leather, and stool leaves) while the Mata Ortiz and
Paquime artisans produce beautiful clay pottery.
If you are interested in adventure, ecotourism, and outdoor sports, Chihuahua is the best
place. Its geographical location will allow you to explore dunes, mountains, rivers, and
copper canyons. The most iconic natural areas in Chihuahua are The Samalayuca dunes, and Las
Barrancas del Cobre (Copper Canyon). Additionally, each year the Chihuahua government plans
an International Adventure Tourism Festival (FITA), which involves competitions in MTB
Cycling, bikes, ATVs, marathons, ultra-marathons, and fishing.
