Irapuato is part of El Bajio, a region that includes part of the sates of Aguascalientes,
Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi and Queretaro. This region alone its rich in history and
colonial architecture.
The best way to discover Irapuato’s history is by strolling around its Historic Center, here
you can find baroque-style temples, monuments, numerous plazas, and gardens. You can spend
the whole day exploring the Presidencia Municipal, the Plazuela Miguel Hidalgo, and
Berriozabal, a small alley full of cafes, restaurants, as well as local ice cream and
esquites.
El Bajio is formed by five cities that are approximately 150 miles between each other,
making them a tourist destination like no other. It’s really easy to move around by renting
a car, taking a bus, or tour. In each location, you can see spectacular landscapes, numerous
plazas, museums, international festivals, and multiple sites declared by UNESCO as a World
Heritage Site.
You can pay with US dollars, Credit/Debit cards on most restaurants and establishments. If
you pay with cash the exchange rate will be lower, it’s better to visit a foreign exchange
agency, a bank, or an ATM to turn your currency into Mexican pesos.

El Bajio it’s a popular region amount tourists, but like in every other city, we suggest
taking common-sense precautions.
Arriving by air
El Bajio has two main international airports; Guanajuato International Airport and Queretaro
Intercontinental Airport. For your convenience, both airports have official shuttle services
and car rental companies, but if you prefer to take an Uber, the driver may ask you to walk
one block away from the entrances.

How to move around the city
Public and private transportation is very affordable and it will take you to most places.
Due to the size of the city, traffic can be a little bit crowded so we recommend taking a
taxi or an uber.
